I have provided a proofreading and copy-editing service since 2003. The topics covered include civil engineering, midwifery, computer science, education, online learning, software engineering, robotics, psychology, floristry, product design, materials science, employability, relational databases, project management, team-working, automotive history...
The latest published work I proofread was Engineering Practice in a Global Context: Understanding the Technical and the Social edited by Bill Williams, José Figueiredo and James Trevelyan. This interesting work involved a dozen authors, for many of whom English is not their first language. The challenge was to keep their separate voices and intonations whilst unifying the tone throughout. Although it is an academic book with numerous references to journals, conference proceedings and other books, it is very readable as the ideas are expressed clearly in a vocabulary kept simple wherever possible.
The editors expressed their appreciation of my work both by mentioning my contribution in the acknowlegements section of the book and in personal thanks to me.
"So many thanks for your work on the book Ursula - a number of the authors made a point of expressing their appreciation of your work."
